EXPLANATION
Following the defeat of Horus, the Imperium entered a period of reconstruction and consolidation. The Emperor could no longer rule directly and was maintained on the Golden Throne. Roboute Guilliman introduced the Codex Astartes, which reorganized the Space Marine Legions into smaller Chapters. Many traitor forces escaped into Warp-controlled regions such as the Eye of Terror. Imperial institutions also became more rigid and bureaucratic as they attempted to maintain stability.
WHY IT MATTERS
The events following the Horus Heresy shaped the modern structure of the Imperium seen in Warhammer 40K. The Emperor’s condition transformed him into a symbolic figure of worship, and the Imperium evolved into a highly authoritarian empire focused on survival.
