EXPLANATION
Magnus the Red was one of the twenty Primarchs created by the Emperor of Mankind to lead the Space Marine Legions during the Great Crusade. Unlike most Primarchs, Magnus possessed immense psychic abilities and had a deep interest in knowledge and sorcery.
He ruled the planet Prospero, where the Thousand Sons Legion studied psychic disciplines. However, the Imperium grew increasingly wary of uncontrolled psychic power. When Magnus attempted to warn the Emperor about Horus’s betrayal using powerful psychic magic, he accidentally caused massive damage to the Emperor’s secret Webway project.
As punishment, the Emperor ordered the Space Wolves to bring Magnus to Terra. The conflict escalated into the destruction of Prospero. Following these events, Magnus fully turned against the Imperium and joined the forces of Chaos.
Eventually, Magnus became a Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, the Chaos God associated with knowledge, change, and sorcery.
WHY IT MATTERS
Magnus the Red played a critical role in the events leading up to the Horus Heresy. His actions indirectly contributed to the collapse of the Emperor’s Webway project and strengthened the influence of Chaos in the galaxy.
