When Did the Great Crusade Happen?

The Great Crusade occurred in the late 30th millennium and early 31st millennium. It was a massive campaign led by the Emperor of Mankind to reunite scattered human worlds across the galaxy. The crusade ended when the Horus Heresy began.

EXPLANATION

Following the Age of Strife, the Emperor launched the Great Crusade to reconnect human colonies isolated by Warp storms. Using newly created Space Marine Legions and massive Imperial fleets, the Imperium expanded rapidly across the galaxy. During this campaign, the Emperor also rediscovered the Primarchs and placed them in command of their legions. The crusade continued until the Warmaster Horus rebelled, triggering the Horus Heresy.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Great Crusade created the Imperium of Man and established humanity’s dominance across much of the galaxy. Many modern Imperial institutions and conflicts originate from events during this era.
