Horus Lupercal was killed by the Emperor of Mankind during the final battle of the Siege of Terra. After leading the rebellion known as the Horus Heresy, Horus confronted the Emperor aboard his flagship. During the duel, the Emperor destroyed Horus completely, ending the rebellion.

EXPLANATION
During the final stages of the Horus Heresy, Horus led the traitor legions in an assault on Terra. The Emperor eventually boarded Horus’s flagship, the Vengeful Spirit, to confront him. During the battle, Horus mortally wounded the loyalist Primarch Sanguinius. The Emperor then fought Horus and ultimately destroyed him using his immense psychic power.
WHY IT MATTERS
The death of Horus ended the Horus Heresy and prevented the complete collapse of the Imperium. However, the Emperor was critically wounded during the battle and placed on the Golden Throne, permanently changing the structure of the Imperium.
